e. e. cummings: may my heart always be open

go raibh mo chroíse oscailte i gcónaí
d’éiníní ar rún na beatha iad
pé rud a chanann siad is fearr é ná aon eolas
agus mura gcloiseann an duine iad is seanóir é

go n-imí m’aigne ag fálróid go fiosrach
gan scáth agus úthach uirthi solúbtha
agus ar an domhnach féin bíodh breall orm
mar an duine a bhfuil an ceart aige ní ógánach é

agus nár dhéana mé aon rud fónta
ach grá níos dílse a thabhairt duitse
níor rugadh fós an t-amadán nach bhféadfadh
an spéir a tharraingt anuas air féin le miongháire beag amháin
may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them men are old

may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it's sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young

and may myself do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than truly
there's never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one smile
