DÍOLTAS NA CUIMHNE: TIONSCADAL MARINA TSVETAEVA

Ba i Ré Airgid litríocht na Rúise a bhláthaigh Marina Tsvetaeva (!922-1941).Le linn Réabhlóid na Rúise a mhair sí agus a scríobh sí agus ina dhiaidh sin le linn Ghorta Mhoscó, an gorta ba thrúig bháis dá hiníon, Irina. Chuaigh sí féin agus a fear céile Sergei Efron ar deoraíocht agus nuair a d'fhill siad ar an Aontas Sóivéadach, cuireadh tréas i leith Sergei agus cuireadh chun báis é; cuireadh a n-iníon Alya chuig campa oibre éigeantais. Sa bhliain 1941 agus arm na Gearmáine ag réabadh rompu sa Rúis, chroch sí í féin.

Tá paisean fíochmhar go smior ina cuid filíochta agus patrúin cheoil phreabarnacha. THE REVENGE OF MEMORY: THE MARINA TSVETAEVA PROJECT

‘I clang – blare – clap / I snarl, I shoot sparks’. So wrote Marina Tsvetaeva (1992 – 1941), one of the greatest poets of Russia’s Silver Age. She lived and wrote through the Russian Revolution and the Moscow famine which followed, and in which her daughter Irina died. She fled into exile with her husband Sergei Efron. On their return to the Soviet Union, Sergei was executed for treason, and their daughter Alya sent to a labour camp. In 1941, as the German army swept into Russia, she hanged herself.

Tsvetaeva’s poetry is noted for its fiery passion and pulsing musical patterns. Tonight her poems will be read in English by Elaine Feinstein, one of the foremost translators of her work, and in Irish by Dairena Ní Chinnéide. They will be accompanied by musicians Steve Cooney (guitar) and Seán Mac Erlaine (saxophone, clarinet, electronics) and by stunning visual projections featuring archive photographs, art and film created by Margaret Lonergan. Curated by Liam Carson, IMRAM Irish Language Literature Festival.
