spring rain

spring rain --
pond and river
are one

pluie d'hiver --
mare et rivière
ne font qu'une

Li Po

Tá na héin bailithe leo isteach sa spéir
is an néal deireanach ag leá den saol.

Mé féin is an sliabh, suímid le chéile
go dtí nach bhfuil fágtha ach an sliabh féinig

Li Po
(701 - 762)

The birds have vanished into the sky,
and now the last cloud drains away.

We sit together, the mountain and me,
until only the mountain remains.

Maya

Díríonn an Búda ar an talamh
Díríonn an máistir Zen ar an ngealaigh
Díríonn Arjúna ar an sprioc
Díríonn Muire ar an mbunóc
Díríonn Íosa ar an gcroí
Díríonn Rumi ar Shams

Bímid go léir ag faire amach
go dtí go bhfeicimid

Maya

Buddha points to the earth
Zen master points to the moon
Arjuna points to the target
Mary points to her child
Jesus points to the heart
Rumi points to Shams

We all look
until we see

Tháinig an Grá

Tháinig an Grá

Tháinig an Grá agus folmhaíodh mé ,
gach féith díom is póir
ina coimeádán a líonfadh m'Ansacht.
Níl fágtha díomsa ach ainm,
tusa an chuid eile, a Chara, a Ansacht.

Abu-Said Abil-Kheir

(967 - 1049)

Love came and emptied me of self

Love came and emptied me of self,
every vein and every pore,
made into a container to be filled by the Beloved.
Of me, only a name is left,
the rest is You my Friend, my Beloved.

Leagan Béarla: Vraje Abramian

Is Léir an Duine Ionraic i ngach cearn den Chruinne

Ní héinne ar leith é
an duine ionraic;

Ach ar nós dúghoirme
na speire síoraí

Sé gach duine é
gach ait ar domhan

True person manifest throughout the ten quarters of the world

The true person
Not anyone in particular;

But, like the deep blue color
Of the limitless sky,
It is everyone, everywhere in the world.

Eihei Dogen (1200 - 1253)

Mise agus mo Phearsa Féin

Tarlaíonn sé ar uairibh
go mbraithim níos soiléire ná riamh
gur i gcomhluadar mo phearsan féin
atáim.
Tugann sé sin sólás, misneach
agus uchtach dom,
díreach faoi mar a thugann mo scáth féin
go dearbh, uchtach dom' cholainn thríthoiseach.

Tarlaíonn sé ar uairibh, dáiríre
go mbraithim níos soiléire ná riamh
gur i gcomhluadar mo phearsan féin
atáim.
Stopaim
ag cúinne sráide chun casadh ar chlé
agus fiafraím díom féin cad a thitfeadh amach
dá siúlfadh mo phearsa féin ar dheis.
Níor tharla sé sin go dtí seo
ach tá an cheist fós gan réiteach.

Myself and My Person

There are moments
when I feel more clearly than ever
that I am in the company
of my own person.
This comforts and reassures me,
this heartens me,
just as my tridimensional body
is heartened by my own authentic shadow.

There are moments
when I really feel more clearly than ever
that I am in the company
of my own person.

I stop
at a street corner to turn left
and I wonder what would happen
if my own person walked to the right.

Until now that has not happened
but it does not settle the question.
