Le foilsiú go luath / Forthcoming

The great haijin (haiku master) Bashō once advised his followers and disciples not to follow him, but to emulate the masters of old who had inspired Bashō, such as the medieval grandmaster of tanka, Saigyō.
Gabriel Rosenstock, poet and haikuist, decided to apprentice himself to the wandering spirit of Saigyō by transcreating his tanka in Irish and English. He has followed the classic configuration of 31 syllables in the 5-7-5-7-7 pattern.
In this way, Rosenstock hoped to master the meditative, compressed form of tanka verse, the oldest poetic genre still being cultivated widely today, and become a 21st century tankaist.
Gabriel Rosenstock is a bilingual poet, tankaist, haikuist, novelist, playwright, short story writer, essayist, children's author and translator.

TIONSCADAL AN tSNEACHTA/THE SNOW PROJECT

Déardaoin 30ú Samhain/Thursday 30 November 7.00pm
Éigse Éireann/Poetry Ireland
11 Parnell Square East, Dublin 1
Cead isteach/admission €10
Tickets online/ticéid ar líne: https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/tionscadal-an-tsneachtathe-snow-project-tickets-39650812648?aff=efbeventtix

Tá triúr filí, duine acu i mBéarla agus an bheirt eile i nGaeilge, ag dul i ngleic le téama an tsneachta sa tionscadal seo. Duine acu is ea Mícheál Ó hAodha, údar an tsaothair Leabhar Dubh an tSneachta, cnuasach gearrdhánta ata ag ple le cuimhne, caillteanas agus sneachta. File agus ealaíontóir colláise í Helen Ivory, údar Waiting for Bluebeard agus The Breakfast Machine. Domhan suaite a léiríonn sí, dar le Penelope Shuttle, suaite ach meallacach mar sin féin, lán d'íoróin is míshuaimhneas. Léifidh Gabriel Rosenstock haiku leis an máistir Issa, ó cheantar an tsneachta Shinano sa tSeapáin, traschruthaithe i nGaeilge. Beidh íomhánna scáileáin againn ó Margaret Lonergan agus tionlacan ceoil ó Enda Reilly.

The Snow Project features three poets - two in Irish, one in English - exploring the theme of snow. Mícheál Ó hAodha has just recently published Leabhar Dubh an tSneachta, in which he explores themes of loss, memory and snow. Helen Ivory is a poet and collage artist, and the author of Waiting for Bluebeard and The Breakfast Machine. Penelope Shuttle has described her work as creating 'a troubled yet beguiling world rich in irony and disquiet'. Gabriel Rosenstock will read Irish transcreations of a selection of Japanese haiku on the theme of snow. Margaret Lonergan will create visuals, whilst the poets will read to musical accompaniment from Enda Reilly.

Cuirfidh Mouth on Fire, compántas a bhfuil gradaim idirnáisiúnta buaite aige, dhá mhórdhráma le William Butler Yeats i láthair le linn Sheachtain na Gaeilge, chomh maith le dorn dánta leis á n-aithris agus á gcanadh. Beidh cuid de mhóraisteoirí na hÉireann páirteach san iarnóin ardsiamsaíochta seo.

Páirteach ann tá Donncha Crowley (a raibh ról aige in King Arthur, Father Ted, Angela’s Ashes agus Kings) Micheál Ó Gruagáin (Grabbers, Killinascully, Corp agus Anam), an dís sin in An Cat agus an Ghealach (The Cat and the Moon), agus Macdara Ó Fátharta, tábhairneoir Ros na Rún, i bpáirt an Ghutha.

Ina dhiaidh sin, beidh deis ag an lucht féachana an chéad léiriú riamh a fheiceáil den dráma is fearr de chuid an Yeatsaigh dar lena lán, is é sin Purgadóir.

Cloisfear chomh maith roinnt de dhánta iontacha an Yeatsaigh á gcur i láthair ag Cathal Quinn agus á gcanadh ag Enda Reilly.

International Award winning theatre-company Mouth on Fire presents two of William Butler Yeats’s greatest plays for Seachtain na Gaeilge 2017 - together with a selection of Yeats’s poems sung and spoken in an afternoon of great entertainment, starring some of Ireland’s best known actors.

Donncha Crowley (best known for King Arthur, Father Ted, Angela’s Ashes and Kings) pairs with veteran actor Micheál Ó Gruagáin (Grabbers, Killinascully, Corp agus Anam) in An Cat agus an Ghealach (The Cat and the Moon), while Macdara Ó Fátharta, Ros na Rún’s most famous bar man, features as the Voice.

This is followed by the World Premiere of Purgadóir - of what many consider Yeats’s best play, Purgatory - starring Donncha Crowley and Eddie Mullarkey.  Wonderfully translated by the internationally renowned poet Gabriel Rosenstock.

The plays will be interspersed with some of Yeats’s greatest poetry - Easter 1916, The Song of Wandering Aengus, The Lake Isle of Innisfree – performed by Cathal Quinn and sung by musician Enda Reilly.

100 sensuous and humourous haiku (inspired by a photo of the Very Venerable Chögyam Trungpa in Highland Regalia) by Irish poet and master haikuist Gabriel Rosenstock. Oscillating between Scottish moors and Tibetan mountaintops, Rosenstock guides us through landcape and history, introducing heroes, villains, and Irish monks; pointing out the beasts and birds and insects in the hedgerows in a tour de force of modern haiku writing. This edition includes translations into Japanese by Mariko Sumikura and into Scots by John McDonald, as well as ‘proverbial pauses’ in Scottish Gaelic illustrated with linotypes by Mathew Staunton.
