This chapter presents a close reading and analysis of a single poem, "ScnØd: míniú," by Gabriel Rosenstock. The poem is read against the background of the decline of the Irish language, even as it remains an important marker of national identity with a substantial symbolic and culture-forming role. The efficacy and the ambiguity of the Irish language in playing this role, Gawlik argues, is the subject matter of this poem, which also explores issues of untranslatability.
