on the death of an Irish-language monthly review, Feasta, after 75 years.
Today they closed it down.
Someone in government decided:
‘That’s it! Finito, Feasta. Hasta la vista, baby!
I know . . .
we have a surplus
of over €9 billion thanks to our friends
in the multinational tech corporations –
and Viagra is doing its bit too –
but we just don’t see this Feasta thingie
as part of the broader picture. Sorry.’
(Actually, no – he never did say ‘Sorry.’)
~
Cuireadh deireadh inniu leis.
Rinne neach éigin sa rialtas cinneadh :
‘Sin sin! Finito, Feasta. Hasta la vista, baby!
Tá a fhios agam . . .
tá farasbarr de bhreis agus €9 billiún againn
a bhuíochas sin ar ár gcairde
sna teicnea-chorparáidí ilnáisiúnta –
agus cion fir déanta ag Viagra freisin –
ach ní fheicimid an reiviú Feasta
mar chuid dár n-aisling leathan. Brón orm.’
(Le bheith beacht macánta faoi – ní raibh brón air!)
