Trí Fhocal ó Nyogen
Míníodh an scéal iomlán dom
i dtrí fhocal mar a leanas
-anicca
-dukkha
-anatta
nach aoibhinn iad!
cad is ea iad? cad deir siad?
b’fhéidir nach bhfuil iontu ach siollaí gan bhrí
glaoch ar lachain
nó ar mhuca
tagaigí! ithigí!
-anicca
-dukkha
-anatta
slog an méid sin!
ith na focail sin
cogain go maith iad anicca dukka anatta
-anicca
d’aigne
is do cholainn
cad mar gheall orthu?
neamhbhuan
is an domhan ina mairid
neamhbhuan
sin is anicca ann mar sin
’bhfuil tú liom?
níl?
níl mar an aigne, an cholainn, an domhan
samhlaímid buaine leo
seasmhacht
agus sin is dukkha ann
an fhulaingt sin, an crá
mar bíonn leá chúr na habhann
ar gach aon ní an t-am go léir
gach aon ní ag imeacht le sruth
is mura bhfuil greim againn
ar an aigne
ar an gcolainn
ar an domhan – is níl –
níl greim againn ar aon ní
agus tugann sé sin sinn
go dtí anatta
cé thú mar sin?
anatta
cé thú sa chíor thuathail seo go léir
an neamhbhuaine seo
anatta
aimsigh an sruth
gan tús
gan deireadh …
múch an teilifís
féach ar bhróigíní beaga do ghariníne
nach bhfuil siad an-chiúin

Three Words from Nyogen
The whole business was explained to me
in the following three words
-anicca
-dukkha
-anatta
how wonderful
what are they? what do they say
maybe they're nothing but meaningless syllables
a call to ducks
to pigs
come! eat!
swallow those words . . .
consume anicca dukkha anatta
chew them well
- anicca
the mind
and the body
yes, what about them?
impermanent
and the world in which they live
impermanent
that is anicca
are you with me?
no, because we imagine
the mind, the body, the world to be permanent
solid
and this is dukkha
this suffering
this misery
for all things dissolve
as foam on the river
and are swept away
and if we have no hold
on the mind
or the body
or the world -
and we don't -
this brings us to anatta
who are you then?
anatta
who are you in this turmoil
this confusion
this impermanence
anatta
find the stream
that has no begininng
no end
turn off the tv
look - the little shoes of your grand-daughter
how very still they are
